  • Michael Bloemsma, Ed.D.
    President
    Term: 2015-2017
    Dr. Michael Bloemsma has over 16 years of experience in education and has worked as a classroom teacher, professor, and technology leader at the school, district, and county levels. Michael currently works for SFUSD in the Department of Technology as a Program Administrator of Technology & Innovation in support of building out our 1:1 Technology initiatives in the district. In this role Michael supports school site administrators and teachers to integrate technology and key pedagogies to help transform the learning experience for students and serve to help SFUSD achieve our Vision 2025 outcomes for students. Michael earned his B.A. in Psychology, with minor in Child Development from SDSU, his M.A. In Education, with emphasis in Instructional Technology from SFSU, and received his Ed.D. In Educational Administration and Leadership, with an emphasis in Technology Leadership from University of California, Irvine in 2013.
  • Caitlin O'Connor
    Vice President of Programs
    Term: 2016-2018
    Caitlin works closely with classroom teachers, principals, district administrators as well as the private sector to implement STEM education, digital citizenship, financial literacy and other online programs that tackle next generation challenges.   • Bryan Twarek ("BT")
    Secretary
    Term: 2015-2017
    As computer science program administrator, Bryan Twarek ("BT") is working to expand computer science (CS) instruction to all students and all schools within the San Francisco Unified School District. He is a writer for the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) K-12 Standards (see csteachers.org/standards) and the K-12 CS Framework (see k12cs.org). Previously, he worked as an educational technology teacher on special assignment, technology integration specialist, and middle school dean and teacher. BT graduated from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in human neuroscience and earned his master's degree in urban education from Loyola Marymount University. He is a Google Certified Administrator and Teacher.
  • Jacinto Noriega III

    Prior to joining Digital Promise, Jacinto was a technology manager for a community-based organization in San Francisco. There, he integrated community technology services with schools, businesses, and other agencies to bridge the digital divide in the Mission District neighborhood. He's also been an elementary school teacher, Avid site coordinator, and technology integration specialist in public schools. Jacinto received his B.A. in liberal studies and his M.A. in education with a focus on equity and social justice.
  • Merve Lapus

    Merve Lapus Is the Director of School Partnerships for Common Sense Education where he manages the Premium School Offering across the United States. Merve collaborates with school networks, state level organizations, and community leaders to provide guidance around fostering a whole-community approach to digital citizenship and digital learning. Merve also serves as the direct lead for channel partners broadening direct service through Common Sense Education. Merve has keynoted events across the United States, and presented hundreds of teacher trainings to schools, districts, and major conferences. He also sits on a number of steering committees addressing school climate and state policy initiatives.
  • Melissa Dodd

    Melissa Dodd serves as the Chief Technology Officer for SFUSD. Melissa is charged with leading the district's technology vision and digital district plan, Building a Digital District, which articulates the district’s strategy to transform learning with technology, infusing technology into teaching, learning, and operations to realize the goals of Vision 2025 and the SFUSD graduate profile for college and career readiness in the 21st century. Prior to joining SFUSD, Melissa worked in the Boston Public Schools for more than eleven years, serving as Chief of Staff and Chief Information Officer. Melissa sat on the MA Board of Education Digital Learning Advisory Council and plays an active role with the Council of Great City Schools, most notably in the development of IT Key Performance Indicators now used by the largest 66 school districts in the country. Prior to joining BPS, she worked at Tufts and Harvard Universities managing academic programs and designing online communities of practice. Melissa has presented nationally on the role of technology in education and published on the use of digital simulations to teach problem-solving in the social sciences. Fluent in Spanish, Melissa has worked and traveled globally, including Spain, Latin America, and South Africa. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and Master’s Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Melissa tweets @MelissaPDodd.
  • Julia Maynard

    Julia Maynard has been teaching sixth grade for ten years. For the first six years she was in a self-contained class and then she taught history, english, and many various iterations of a tech class. She has worked hard to transition every school she has worked at to the digital word by implementing online tools for collaboration and communication. Julia has taught sessions at Fall Cue, Lead 3.0, and ECET2. When she isn’t reading tween novels or building ancient Egyptian temples Julia can be found using one of her several apple devices to find new hand-on lessons for her classes.
  • Steve Kesel
    Treasurer
    Term: 2015-2016
    Steve Kesel is passionate about helping students and teachers use technology to enhance learning. He began helping his second graders use tech in the classroom in the late '90s. More recently, he spent five years as Pacifica School District's Access, Equity, and Innovation Specialist, helping teachers develop learning experiences that brought technology, 21st Century skills, design thinking, and project-based learning into everyday content learning. He currently serves as SFUSD's Educational Technology Program Administrator.
  • Karl Yasin Sariduman

    Karl Yasin Sariduman believes in education is a human right for every individual and advocates education rights globally. While he is interning in Strategic Marketing & Event Management role at CUE San Francisco, he is pursuing his Advertising/ Marketing education at the University of Francisco (USF) with full scholarship. Karl Yasin Sariduman is also member of San Francisco Bay Area Big Innovation Group, American Marketing Association, Amnesty International and he is currently Social Media Manager at San Francisco Foghorn Newspaper.
  • Bill Marsland

    Bill Marsland recently joined SFUSD’s Computer Science team from the Chicago Public Schools, where he taught music, technology, and computer science for 10 years. As a Teacher on Special Assignment, he is teaching computer science at 2 middle schools while coaching other middle school educators and working with a team of TSAs to write curriculum for the district. Bill received an MA in Educational Technology from Michigan State University, where he is also an adjunct faculty member in their online Educational Technology Certificate Program. As a recent transplant to San Francisco, he is enjoying all the city has to offer in terms of food, art, and culture. He has also recently taken up cycling and will be participating in the 2017 AIDS/LifeCycle, riding 545 miles over 7 days from San Francisco to Los Angeles in June!
  • Christy Novack

    Christy Novack has been in education for over 17 years. She was an elementary educator for 14 years. Prior to this, she taught integration of technology tools at SF State to teachers gaining their credentials. She also created and taught technology electives for 6-8th graders as a paperless, blended learning classroom. She is currently the Access, Equity and Innovation Specialist for Pacifica School District which focuses on bringing innovative learning practices to the classroom.   • Dan Frost

    Dan has been an educator in SFUSD for ten years and has always been an avid implementor of technology in my classrooms. He currently works as a Digital Learning Partner in the Department of Technology at SFUSD helping teachers, administrators, and other staff integrate technology into their practice more effectively and efficiently. He develops and delivers training sessions and professional development series, leads and facilitates initiatives around digital implementation in schools, and advises administration on how to integrate technology use more thoughtfully for their whole school. He is currently spearheading the Digital Citizenship initiative for SFUSD.
